Main Library Research Study Rooms and Graduate Study Room Lockers

The Main Library offers small, locked study rooms on the fourth and fifth floors to be used for the purpose of in-depth study and research requiring extensive use of library materials. There is also a secure room on the third floor for graduate students.  The assignment period for all study spaces is September 1- July 31.

Faculty

Assignment Criteria (in priority order)

  • Full-time faculty
  • Ph.D. candidates writing dissertations (*graduate students, see how to apply, below)
  • Part-time faculty
  • Adjunct faculty
  • Emeritus faculty are not eligible.

  • Click here for the online application form (available August – May).  Currently there is a waiting list. The wait list starts over each assignment period.

Graduate Students – Research Study Rooms

Criteria

  • Post-comp Ph.D. degree candidates, currently engaged in the writing of their dissertation (candidates in their last year of writing are given first priority).
  • Priority is given to disciplines served by the Main Library (humanities, social sciences, and math and physical sciences; then by other disciplines if rooms still available.)

How to Apply

  • Download the PDF application here; fill it out and return by email to Andrea Rost.
  • You may also turn in the completed application to the Administration Office, 5th floor, Main Library. Paper copies of the application are also available.
  • To be considered in the first round of assignments, your completed application must be returned to the Administration Office by Friday, August 29th, 2014.  Applications are then prioritized based on return order and assignment criteria.

Graduate Students – Graduate Study Room 3132

Criteria

  • Any current graduate student may enter the room by swiping their valid IowaOne card on the box outside of the room. (Note that older cards may not work – contact ID Card Services http://idcard.fo.uiowa.edu or 335-2716)

How to Apply for a Locker

  • There are currently no lockers available. Download the PDF application here(available August 25, 2014); fill it out and return by email to Andrea Rost.
  • You may also turn in the completed application to the Administration Office, 5th floor, Main Library. Paper copies of the application are also available.
  • There are a limited number of lockers available, so not every student will be able to have one.
