Main Library Assigned Study Rooms and Lockers

The Main Library offers a variety of study rooms to be used for in-depth study and research requiring extensive use of library materials.  The assignment period for all study spaces is September 1- July 31.

Faculty

Individual Research Study Rooms

Description:  These are small, individual, locked rooms on the upper floors of the Main Library and are to be used for the purpose of in-depth study and research requiring extensive use of library materials.  Guidelines

Criteria:  Current UI faculty with ranks of professor, associate professor, and assistant professor.

Study Room 3134

Description:  This room is available for individual reading, writing, and study.  Located on the third floor by the current periodicals, this room is furnished with 8 desk surfaces, 2 lounge chairs with ottomans and laptop tables, and 2 open-shelved bookcases for temporary storage.  Guidelines

Criteria:  Any current or emeritus UI faculty member.

How to Access:  Any current faculty member may enter the room by swiping their valid IowaOne card on the box outside of the room.  Contact ID Card Services if your card doesn’t work.

At this time, we regret that the system is not allowing us to automatically assign access to emeritus faculty.  Emeritus faculty may fill out this form to request access, or stop in the Administration Office.

Lockers

Description:  Sixteen lockers are available next to the Faculty Study Room.

Criteria:  Any current or emeritus UI faculty member.

Graduate Students

Individual Research Study Rooms

Description:  These are small, individual, locked rooms on the upper floors of the Main Library and are to be used for the purpose of in-depth study and research requiring extensive use of library materials.  Guidelines

Criteria:  Post-comp Ph.D. degree candidates, currently engaged in the writing of their dissertation (candidates in their last year of writing are given first priority).

Priority is given to disciplines served by the Main Library (humanities, social sciences, and math and physical sciences; then by other disciplines if rooms still available.)

How to Apply:  Download the PDF application – available for the 2015-2016 academic year on August 24; fill it out and return by email to Andrea RostCurrently there is a waiting list.

You may also turn in the completed application to the Administration Office, 5th floor, Main Library. Paper copies of the application are also available.

To be considered in the first round of assignments, your completed application must be returned to the Administration Office by Friday, August 29th, 2014.  Applications are then prioritized based on return order and assignment criteria.

Study Room 3132

Description:  This space provides a restricted-access are for graduate students to conduct quiet, independent study and research.  Guidelines 

Criteria:  Any current UI graduate student.

How to Access:  Any current graduate student may enter the room by swiping their valid IowaOne card on the box outside of the room. (Contact ID Card Services  if your card doesn’t work.)

Lockers

Description:  Eighty lockers are available inside the Graduate Study Room.

Criteria:  Any current UI graduate student.

How to Apply:  Download the application – available on August 24, 2015; fill it out and return by email to Andrea RostCurrently there is a waiting list.
