LAB MONITOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Lab Monitor

Location: Information Arcade, Main Library

Requirements:
UI undergraduate or graduate student
Work/Study eligibility preferred

Job Description:

  1. Provide help at the service desk to Arcade users.
  2. Provide telephone support.
  3. Provide base-level support on using the computer network--accessing software, OASIS, electronic databases, etc.
  4. Demonstrate and give assistance on certain core software and hardware.
  5. Check out and check in software and manuals, according to Arcade policies.
  6. Advise users about software options for a given task, using the Software Abstract Manual.
  7. Refer users with difficult problems to a Lab Assistant.
  8. Distribute and collect Project Description Forms and give them to the Lab Manager.
  9. Teach the "Introduction to the Information Arcade" mini course.
  10. Coordinate the use of equipment, especially if a waiting list or time limit system becomes necessary. Handle disputes.
  11. Weekly, scan the workstation hard drives for viruses and notify the Systems Analyst if any are found.
  12. Collect Lab usage data.
  13. Perform routine cleaning of equipment, tabletops, etc.
  14. Maintain printers (change toner cartridges, ribbons, paper).
  15. Notify the Lab Manager when computer or office supplies are low.
  16. Turn equipment on in the morning and off at the end of the day.
  17. Other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager or Lab Assistants.
