do...
- make sure you give yourself plenty of time to complete a class project.
- save your documents frequently, and always have more than one copy. Unexpected power, disk, and network failures can cause the loss of your work.
- give priority to persons needing the hardware (e.g., scanners, video equipment) at a specific workstation if that hardware is not necessary for you to complete your work.
- recycle unwanted printouts and newspapers in the recycling bins located in the Arcade.
- sign up at the Information Arcade Desk to use the Multimedia Stations and seminar room.
- subscribe to our newsletter and our Arcade Clinics notification list.
- stop all work at any classroom workstation at least 10 minutes before a class starts. (check the classroom schedule posted on the door.)
- ask the Arcade staff how to set up your computer to allow you to read and write in another language.
- check out headphones from the desk for private editing of your multimedia project.
do...
- NOT talk so loudly that you disturb other patrons.
- NOT use Arcade facilities for word processing or e-mail if most of the computers are full. Word processing and e-mail, as well as recreational Internet browsing, can be done in the Information Technology Center on the second floor of the Main Library or at other ITCs located throughout campus.
- NOT duplicate any files found on the computers. To do so may be illegal and may result in your expulsion from the University, or worse.
- NOT leave files on the computer's local hard drive. Local hard drives are regularly purged of user files. Video editing stations are a limited exception.
- NOT connect or disconnect any Arcade peripherals. You must ask permission, in advance, to connect personal equipment to Arcade machines.
- NOT delete any files that are not your own.
- NOT use the Instructor's Station in the classroom unless you are an instructor or have been authorized to do so.
- NOT remove materials from the Arcade without checking them out.
- NOT print from networked printers unless you have a valid HawkID. Cash is not accepted for printouts. Ask the Arcade Staff if you have questions.
- NOT use Arcade facilities to digitize or duplicate copyrighted materials without proper permission or attribution.
- NOT use Arcade facilities on business or for-profit purposes.
Remember: direct your questions to the Information Arcade staff. That's what we're here for!
