The Information Arcade public services team consists of Consultants and Student Assistants, who provide four basic types of services related to the Information Arcade’s mission of facilitating the integration of new technologies into teaching, learning, and research. These services are provided to all University Libraries patrons, and foremost, our primary clientele of University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students. The four services can be broadly broken down as follows:
Information and Reference Services
Support to individual patrons at the Information Arcade’s computer stations. Support ranges from technical support and troubleshooting to multimedia development and web design help.
User Education
Consultant-taught Arcade Clinic workshops on a variety multimedia applications and topics. Also available are tours or orientation for UI students and faculty, as well as visiting faculty, administrators, and librarians from other institutions on all aspects of Information Arcade services and facilities.
User Consultation
One-on-one or small group consultation regarding advanced issues related to scholarly use of multimedia. Appointments may be made with any Consultant and usually last from one to four hours.
Research and Development Projects
Short-term and long-term projects where a Consultant is assigned to work with a group of faculty, library staff, or other University personnel on a sophisticated or innovative use of technology in an academic setting. Projects may be pilot projects or ongoing initiatives that support the Information Arcade’s mission and should relate to library user education, access to electronic information resources, academic course development, or new and innovative scholarly research. Projects must meet certain guidelines and be approved by the Head of the Information Arcade.
