The Biological Sciences Library has a long history at the University of Iowa, evolving in tandem with the departments it has served. The Biological Sciences Library building, built in 1902 as The Hall of Anatomy of the Medical Department, originally featured an amphitheater for the dissection of human cadavers. It now offers three floors of quiet study space, book and journal collections, computer workstations, and wireless connectivity.

The on-site collection of nearly 50,000 volumes covers most areas of the biological sciences except human biology and medicine. Through its growing electronic journal and electronic book collections, the Library now increasingly comes to students and researchers wherever Internet connectivity is available. Whether you visit the Library virtually or in person, Library staff look forward to helping you utilize this valuable resource.
