Reserve Policies and Guidelines for InstructorsRequests to place materials on reserve at the Biological Sciences Library may be submitted at any time.
Please allow at least one full business day to make materials available to students. Requests to place materials on reserve are processed in the order they are received. Requests submitted close to or during the first week of classes are likely to take longer to process.
Whenever possible, please allow at least one full week for any library books that must be recalled, or for any books that must be purchased at either IMU Book Store or Iowa Book. Books that must be ordered from other sources will take considerably longer to arrive.
Please indicate if any books not owned by the University of Iowa Libraries are available for purchase at either IMU Book Store or Iowa Book.
The typical loan period is 2 hours. However, 1-day and 3-day loan options are also available. Instructors may also specify if any course reserve materials should be "room use only" (i.e. not allowed to the leave the Library).
If a request is made in person, or personal copies are brought to the Library, an instructor should note his/her name, email address, course name and course number.
Instructors are responsible for determining whether their use of copyrighted materials falls under Fair Use. Submission of requests to place reading packets, photocopied articles/book chapters, or PDF files on reserve indicates acceptance of responsibility for copyright compliance. Please review the Copyright and Teaching/Research web site for further information.
