{"id":12,"date":"2012-11-07T08:14:59","date_gmt":"2012-11-07T14:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forms.lib.uiowa.edu\/collections\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2021-03-24T11:54:41","modified_gmt":"2021-03-24T16:54:41","slug":"cmt","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/collections\/cmt\/","title":{"rendered":"Collection Management Team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Mission: Advise the AUL for Collections and Scholarly Communication on collection development and management activities to support the research, instruction, and programmatic needs for the University of Iowa. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Charge: The Team\u00a0serves as an advisory committee, under the direction of the AUL for Collections and Scholarly Communication, recommends collection policy to the Libraries&#8217; administration. The Team seeks to build and manage a collection offering the breadth and depth of subjects, formats, and languages necessary to support diverse fields of scholarly inquiry. The Team serves as the first group for deliberations on policies impacting collections in traditional and digital formats. The Team will operate as a work team which will require engagement outside of team meetings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">The Team will focus on a wide range of collections issues encompassing all formats. Members will:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Coordinate and provide leadership to selectors\/collection managers to ensure their long-term development and consistency with selection responsibilities.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Coordinate collection management activities throughout the system.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Establish policies and priorities to improve access to information resources.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Align collection development practices to respond to shifting user needs.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Oversee and manage the development of collection development policy statements to describe the scope and nature of collections.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Make recommendations to align collections funds with University priorities and Libraries&#8217; strategic directives.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Identify print collections suitable for offsite storage facilities and work collaboratively with the Collections and Storage Team.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Develop policies that govern both traditional and digital information resources.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Monitor cooperative purchasing agreements.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Identify trends, emerging practices and standards impacting collection development in a research environment.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Advises the AUL for Collections and Scholarly Communication on issues relating to evaluation of collection management work, digital collections, and collection assessment projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Membership: The Team will consist of 11 members (3 ex officio and 8 appointed), but this number may decrease pending the development of the Team.\u00a0 Members will service three-year terms. Terms will be staggered to maintain knowledge and consistency of Team. Continuous renewal will require approval from the Chair\/Admin Liaison.\u00a0 It is expected that members selected will rotate. Members will be appointed by the Chair\/Admin Liaison in consultation with heads of areas as appropriate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Appointed members will be selected based on the following factors:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Discipline and interdisciplinary representation<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Engagement and understanding of collection management<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Developing knowledge of collection budgets<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Ability to understand broad issues impacting collection development strategies<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Understanding of 21st century collection issues for research libraries and health science centers<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Ex Officio members:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Collections Strategist<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Head, Acquisitions<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span class=\"ms-rteThemeForeColor-2-0\">Head, Access Services<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mission: Advise the AUL for Collections and Scholarly Communication on collection development and management activities to support the research, instruction, and programmatic needs for the University of Iowa.
