Three Additions to Model Collection

We have recently acquired three new models in our collection. Detailed descriptions of these three
models will be added to the online collection soon.

Tibetan pothi binding

Anna Embree, Assistant Professor of Hand Bookbinding at the Alabama Book Arts Program, created this replica (left) of a Tibetan pothi binding, which consists of loose leaves in cloth covers with wooden boards. This Asiatic monastic binding structure came into use in the 16th century and is still used today. The prints are made from authentic Tibetan woodblocks courtesy of Jim Canary.

20th Century Binding Models

These models of 20th century Trade Binding (far left) and 20th century Library Binding (near left) were bound by Emilia Ellison, who is currently studying at North Bennett Street School. The models were created as part of an Arts & Humanities Initiative Grant.

Additional 20th Century Binding models will be added to the collection over the next year as part of this grant.
