Espinosa Donates Conservation Binding Models
Robert Espinosa has donated binding models he produced to illustrate features of his innovative bonnet binding and rigid board binding. These binding types were published and presented on various occasions and exemplify the experimentation of book conservators in the 1980’s.
The “limp vellum” binding set consists of four text blocks illustrating the sequence of binding and four finished bindings with flexible tawed skin bonnets and boards of either vellum or paper. The “hard board” binding set consists of samples of cabled cords and foredge closures, a sewn text block and two finished bindings covered in tawed skin
These models will be cataloged under two numbers. They inaugurate an additional collection category which we have called “Conservation Binding”.
