Chinese Collection

Mission

  • With the increasing cultural and economic presence of China in the 21st-century international community, Chinese Studies has become more and more important as an academic discipline. The Chinese Collection at the University of Iowa Libraries thus defines as its mission and goals to serve the best interests of the Chinese Studies programs at the University;
  • It is understood that academic library plays an indispensable role in serving and facilitating Chinese Studies through promotion of collection development, bibliographic instruction, information literacy as they are directly or indirectly related to Chinese Studies;
  • The Chinese Collection is focused on serving the curriculum and research needs of Chinese Studies programs at University of Iowa;
  • Collection development is oriented to addressing the important issues and challenges in Chinese Studies, keeping abreast of new currents in all fields of Chinese Studies, and serving the strengths and priorities of Chinese Studies programs at University of Iowa, while keeping a balance between their short-term needs and long-term interests.
