Japanese Films at Iowa

Iowa's web OPAC, InfoHawk Catalog, should be searched to find out what Japanese feature films (most in VHS or DVD format) are in the collection. Keep in mind the following tips:

          1. Names of directors can be searched using either the Basic or Advanced Search Screen. The names of well-known actors and actresses appearing in a film may also be searchable.
          2. Films that are available with English sub-titles may be entered only under their English title (and even this title may vary depending on the release). Do not assume that the original Japanese title is part of the InfoHawk record.
          3. To scan ALL Japanese film holdings, use the following search strategy.

To scan for Japanese language films on VHS or DVD:　

          1. Go to the InfoHawk Advanced Search Screen.
          2. Limit to Location: Main Media Services
          3. Limit to Language: Japanese.
          4. Limit to Video-ALL (for both VHS and DVD), Video-VHS, or Video-DVD.
          5. Search.

In 2001 and 2002, the University of Iowa was awarded a Library Support Grant to purchase Japanese feature films. To see a Japanese language list of the films, click 2001 list or 2002 list.
