Encased in special handmade wooden box case. Text printed with collotype printing and the illustrations colored by hand. Using the following materials: cover of the scroll, Kawashima silk weave; Text, front endpaper, and colophon, the most famous Japanese paper, Torinoko. Dyed with powder of clam on both sides. Decorated with grass-design woodcut print with powder of mica and with genuine gold and silver leaves. For Sanskrit text, using a half-thickness of the original first grade Torinoke paper to be rolled smoothly. Roll: sandal wood. Box case: Paulownia wood. Title on the upper lid and the limited number inside of it written in India ink by hand. Our craftpersons' mark stamped in red on lower side of the case. Printed, colored, and bound all by hand at Addo-Rie Studio.

Original edition published in 1801 in London. It is believed that this edition was published the following year in Philadelphia by Jacob Johnson. This edition is reprinted from a copy in the possession of Stanley Marcus. It has been reduced by one-third and typeset to reproduce the original spacing and punctuation. Cover is made of leather with a Battersea enamel plaque made by Halycon Days Enamels at Billston commissioned for this book, painted by hand. In slipcase.
There are 37 examples of this genre, dating from 1790-1917 on display. The physical descriptions, including the dates of issue, are fairly evident from the pieces themselves. More complete descriptions were not compiled for the exhibition.

Bound with each peep show is a text: with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, a preface giving a short history of peep shows; with Through the Looking Glass, the Red Queen's instructions to Alice on becoming Queen. Each peep show is fully bound in gray book cloth. Letterpress printed in pale Victorian patterns. Black cloth slipcase with peep-hole title holds the two volumes.
