RefWorks Plugin Installation (Write-N-Cite)

Note: Do not install Write-N-Cite with Microsoft Word running.

  1. Download the “Write-N-Cite” widget from http://www.refworks.com/Refworks/WNCDownload.asp and install. (See below for Macintosh instructions)
  2. Open up MS Word and look for the red “Write N Cite” widget in the toolbar (it should also appear under Tools)
  3. Click on the “Write-N-Cite” widget and login to your RefWorks account
    a. This should bring up your account in a new window
  4. Click on “Cite” next to one of the citations listed in the RefWorks window
    a. This should insert a place holder (eg. {{2 Cosio,M.Q. 1988; }}) in the Word document
  5. Save the Word document
  6. Click on “Bibliography” in the top-left of the RefWorks window
  7. Select a citation style (such as “APA”) from the drop-down list of output styles
  8. Click “Create Bibliography”
    a. This should create a new version of your document with “Final-“ before the name which contains the formatted citations and bibliography

Installing Write-N-Cite for Mac (http://www.refworks.com/refworks/help/installing_write-n-cite_for_mac.htm)

1. After downloading Write-N-Cite from RefWorks (click here to download Write-N-Cite), unstuff the file called macwncinstall.dmg (Safari and IE users will receive a file called archive.sitx and which should be unstuffed). To unstuff the file, you may need to download a free software program -- StuffIt Expander (http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/) if it not already installed on your Mac.

2. Drag Write-N-Cite to the desired location -- typically your Applications folder.
