2000 ANNUAL REPORT

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS ROUNDTABLE

Iowa Library Association

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Government Documents Roundtable is to promote documents library service by providing an avenue for discussion of problems and concerns and for exchange of ideas among librarians working with government publications in all types of libraries.

ACTIVITIES     

The 15th Annual Government Documents Workshop took place July 21, at the Parks Library, Iowa State University.  The workshop, "Census 2000", was presented by Matthew Milbrodt, Information Services Specialist, Kansas City Office of the Census Bureau.  The workshop included an overview of the census process, a look at the data products planned, a discussion of the scheduled release dates, and a hands-on look at the American FactFinder.  The day ended with a tour of the artwork at Parks Library.  Approximately 26 people attended the workshop.

 GODORT sponsored two sessions at the ILA Fall Conference in Ames.  The first was a Census 2000 Update, again presented by Matthew Milbrodt.  The second, "State Government Information: Creating New Connections", was presented by Dan Combs, Director of the Bureau of Digital Government, State of Iowa Information Technology Department, with assistance from Roy Kenagy, Information Services Manager, State Library of Iowa. The GODORT Executive Board displayed Library Journal's 1999 Notable Government Documents and Iowa Depository Program Core Documents.  The Iowa documents were given away in a drawing.

 GOALS ACHIEVED

Published four issues of Documents Roundtable News (March, June, October, December)

Organized a successful Government Documents Workshop

Sponsored two sessions & a government documents display at the Fall Conference

Worked with the ILA webmaster to launch a web page for ILA/GODORT on the ILA web site

 This report is to be submitted by the 2000 chair to the ILA office and the subdivision's Executive Board liaison by December 1, 2000.  The chair will then submit an end-of-the-year financial report to the Finance Committee by January 31, 2000.
