Association
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the
Government Documents Round Table is to promote documents library service by
providing an avenue for discussion of problems and concerns and for exchange of
ideas among librarians working with government publications in all types of
libraries.
ACTIVITIES IN FULLFILLMENT OF GOALS SET FOR 2003:
- Completion of the Iowa State Plan for Federal
Depository Libraries http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/govpubs/iowaplan-rev03.html
on file with the Superintendent of Documents at the Government Printing
Office, Washington, D.C. The Memorandum of Agreement signed by
each Iowa depository library is on file with the Regional
Librarian, Carolyn Kohler.
- 18th Annual Government Documents
Workshop at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum was held on
July 11, 2003
with speakers from the National Archives and Records Administration and
National Park Service tours of the museum and historic site.
- Two sessions were sponsored at the Iowa Library
Association Annual Conference. On
October 16th GPO Access Database Specialists from Washington, D.C.
provided two demonstration sessions of the newly redesigned database. On October 17th a speaker
from the Great Plains Office of the National Archives and Records
Administration spoke on genealogical research tools available at NARA. This
session was co-sponsored with the Local History and Genealogy Subdivision.
- Carolyn Kohler’s many career accomplishments in
documents librarianship were recognized through a courtesy resolution and
the presentation of a plaque.
- The GODORT Website was further developed.
- Four newsletters were published.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR 2004
- Sponsor summer workshop with focus on the Iowa legislative documents and resources to be held
in Des Moines.
- Sponsor an ILA Conference program on learning
about current events through free government resources.
- Initiate discussions and planning for local documents
training for non-depository librarians at various locations across Iowa.
- Initiate discussion among membership regarding
the feasibility of establishing a scholarship/grant to provide support for
an Iowa librarian to attend a Federal Depository Library
Conference.
- Continue publishing schedule for the
subdivision’s electronic newsletter with four quarterly issues.
- Further development of the GODORT Website.
