PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Government Documents round Table is to promote documents library service by providing an avenue for discussion of problems and concerns and for exchange of ideas among librarians working with government publications in all types of libraries.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2004:

The Annual Government Documents Workshop at the Law Library in the State Capitol Building in Des Moines was held on July 24 th. More than 30 Iowa librarians participated in the workshop which included sessions in the Law Library, the Historical Museum Library, and the Iowa Genealogical Library.

GODORT, along with the Intellectual Freedom Committee and the Resources and Technical Services Forum, cosponsored Jayne Hitchcock at the Iowa Library Association’s Annual Conference. She spoke on cyber-stalking in her presentation, “ The Wild, Wild Web: Tools You Can Use”.
The GODORT Newsletter received a facelift so that we could utilize the advantages of publishing on-line. Four issues were published in 2004.
A change to the by-laws was approved during the annual meeting to establish an Awards Committee. The Committee will award a grant to a GODORT member interested in attending the Federal Depository Library Program's Fall Depository Library Conference.
A permanent home was found for the GODORT archives at the University of Iowa’s Documents Department.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR 2004

Offer a Summer Workshop at UNI in Cedar Falls which will focus on the New Iowans Program and on the Grassley Papers.
Sponsor an ILA Conference program, possibly inviting Viviane Launay from UNESCO to speak.
Award a grant to a GODORT member to attend the Federal Depository Library Program's Fall Depository Library Conference.
Support local documents training for non-depository libraries.
Continue to publish the GODORT Newsletter.
Make the minutes of meetings on the website more accessible per a request from ILA.
Increase GODORT membership and attendance at the annual meetings.
