Government Documents Round Table (GODORT)
Iowa Library Association
Name of Subdivision: GODORT
Purpose: The purpose of the Government Documents Round Table is to promote documents library service by providing an avenue for discussion of problems and concerns and for exchange of ideas among librarians working with government publications in all types of libraries.
Activities and Goals achieved:
Twenty-three library employees from across Iowa attended the GODORT annual summer workshop at the University of Iowa Main Library on July 14, 2006. Program from the day included: 1) an update on state, federal and international government information issues; 2) demonstration of the Iowa Publications Online system; 3) Iowa Digital Heritage Collection; 4) Iowa Geological Survey resources; 5) Health sciences resources; and 6) a tour of the Old Capitol.
GODORT sponsored a session titled “How to Use the Iowa Code and the Iowa Administrative Code on the Internet” at the ILA Annual Conference. The session took place on Thursday, October 12 from 3:30-4:20 and featured Mandy Easter, a law librarian at the State Law Library. Ms. Easter demonstrated how to use the Iowa Code and Iowa Administrative Code and outlined issues related to answering legal reference questions.
For the first time, GODORT sponsored a booth at the ILA Annual Conference. Materials about GODORT and free government information sources were distributed to conference attendees. It was also a chance for the GODORT chair to talk to ILA membership about the mission and activities of GODORT.
GODORT continued publication of its quarterly electronic newsletter, Document Roundtable News.
The GODORT scholarship award for attending a Federal Documents Library Conference was not awarded in 2006 due to the fact that there were no applicants.

The annual workshop will be held in Des Moines, July 2007
Sponsor an ILA conference program. Some considerations include inviting creators of content from state government (perhaps Legislative Service Agency staff), and/or focusing on content appropriate for children and young adults (to attract a public library or school library audience)
Continue having a booth at the ILA annual conference
Continue to promote awareness of GODORT, especially focusing on government information as a resource all library workers can use.
Continue to publish the GODORT newsletter
Increase GODORT membership and participation.
Explore possibility of a scholarship for Library & information science students to attend the GODORT summer workshop.
