Business Meeting
Summer Workshop

In Attendance: Brett Cloyd (secretary/treasurer) – University of Iowa; Joyce Lindstrom – Iowa State University; Sandy Peterson – Iowa State University; Debbie Casey – Iowa State University; Becky Lutkenhaus (vice-president) – University of Northern Iowa; Julie Thomas – Drake Law Library; Kristi Anhalt – Waterloo Public Library; Nancy Geiger – Cedar Rapids Public Library; Liga Briedis – Drake University; Deb Martzahn – Grinnell College; Barb Corson – Iowa State Library (president)

Minutes:

  1. Approximately 30 people participated in the day-long workshop in Des Moines which included visits to the State Law Library, State Library, State Historical Society Library; and the Iowa Genealogical Society Library.
  2. We talked about upcoming events at the ILA Fall Conference in Sioux City, October 13-15, 2004. ILA GODORT sponsored activities include: 1) a presentation on Iowa Publications On-line by Barb Corson and Margaret Noon, and 2) co-sponsoring a presentation by Jayne Hitchcock from “Working to Halt On-line Abuse” (more information: http://www.haltabuse.org/jayne/)
  3. ILA GODORT invites members and other interested persons to think about training needs they might have in their library or community and to contact one of the ILA GODORT officers.
  4. Joyce, Becky and Brett will explore issues which relate to working with ILA to encourage the legislature to require state agencies to participate in the Iowa Publications Online project (http://publications.iowa.gov/).
  5. Brett reported that Marianne Mason is the new Regional Librarian, serving and representing the State of Iowa in the Federal Depository Library Program.
  6. Becky will work with ILA to set up an awards committee, as part of ILA GODORT, to provide scholarship assistance to an ILA GODORT member wanting to attend a national Federal Depository Library Program meeting.
  7. Barb will draft a letter of invitation to Viviane Launay of UNESCO to present at the ILA 2005 meeting in Dubuque.
  8. Next meeting of Iowa GODORT will be the Friday breakfast at the ILA Conference in Sioux City. Hope you can attend.
