  1. Nominations Committee: Selection and voting of candidates for 2007 officers.

    2007 Officers will be
    Cory Quist – Chair
    Tom Keyser – Vice Chair
Steve Ostrem – Secretary / Treasurer
  2. ILA’s Annual Planning meeting will be held November 3rd at Grinnell College . It will be important for 2007 officers to attend this meeting. Registration is required. Materials were supplied to all new officers. Brett Cloyd will also attend to provide transitional assistance to the new board.
  3. Talk about GODORT's role in ILA's Strategic Plan (see note below)

There was good discussion about this topic. We looked at the idea of librarians explaining what’s on the web and giving government information context. We talked about possible professional contributions such as a Catalyst article, future focuses of a summer workshop, postings to SILO List, GODORT Newsletter articles. Similar to current activities, perhaps some refinement could be done to better align GODORT’s work with the new strategic plan

We talked about people searching for information more than publications and government agencies are splitting apart what once were publications into separate pieces. How does that effect work librarians do (including public and technical services responsibilities)? How does it effect preservation issues? How does it effect training and educational goals of GODORT?

We also talked about government information questions from a technical services context – maintenance of records, nature of PURL records, etc. What contributions can library workers who focus on technical services responsibilities make to GODORT?
  4. We talked about state and federal roles in archiving government information, including GPO’s efforts and the State Library’s efforts to ensure permanent access and GODORT’s role in highlighting these efforts and contributing to the conversation.
  5. Next year's GODORT Workshop, date and location. Cory Quist will oversee the workshop, with a likely location of the Iowa Judicial Building. He will have a date ahead of the ILA Planning Meeting.
  6. Awards Committee Report. Federal Depository Library Conference Award. Reviewed process for seeking applications, including contact with library directors at Federal Depository libraries. Marianne Mason informed the group that she had contacted a select number of library directors at Selective Federal Depositories to let them know about the award. Encourage colleagues to apply – get the word out. There were some alternatives presented should there be no applicants in the coming years – 1) possibility of covering more of the costs (all?) to attend a FDLC meeting, especially if GODORT budget continues to increase, 2) awarding scholarships to ILA Annual or GODORT summer workshops. A future board and membership conversation and decision will need to take place to make changes to the award.

Note from ILA Executive Board

The Iowa Library Association’s Fall Conference is just a few weeks away and I hope your plans are in place to attend.  The Executive Board is asking each ILA Subdivision to take a few moments at your annual business meeting to talk about your subdivision’s role in the Association’s Strategic Plan.  A copy of the current year’s Action Plan is attached, listing the action steps that each Subdivision and Committee planned for this year.  Would you please review it with GODORT members at your Business Meeting and give yourselves a pat on the back for all you’ve accomplished?  Then, take a few moments at your Business Meeting, and review the new Strategic Plan (published in the July/August 2006 Catalyst to hopefully be adopted at the Conference) and talk about what your Subdivision would like to accomplish next year.  You’ll then be able to bring the ideas generated by your whole group to the fall planning session on Friday, November 3 at Grinnell College.  http://www.iowalibraryassociation.org/associations/2221/files/ILA.action%20plan.2006.pdf
