ILA Conference Update

The annual ILA conference will be in Council Bluffs, Iowa on October 11-13, 2006.

GODORT is sponsoring Mandy Easter, Librarian at State Library of Iowa, who will present a session at the conference called “How to Use the Iowa Code and the Iowa Administrative Code on the Internet.” This is scheduled for Thursday, October 12, at 3:30 p.m.

The GODORT Breakfast and Business Meeting will be held at the conference on Friday, October 13 at 7:30 a.m. Unfortunately this early time could not be easily changed. Please bring two friends to the breakfast.

Election of new GODORT officers for 2007 will take place during the Business Meeting at the ILA Conference, Friday, October 13 at 7:30 a.m. Please contact 2006 officers Brett Cloyd, Cory Quist, or Michael May with nominations for the ballot.

Brett Cloyd called for volunteers to possibly staff a GODORT booth at the ILA Conference. A booth would be used to promote GODORT and recruit new members. The booth would cost approximately $100. GODORT has about $1,800 and 27 current members, so a staffing a booth is feasible. Barb Corson suggested setting up an un-staffed booth with a display, flyers and other literature if volunteers are unavailable.

FDLC Award

GODORT’s Federal Depository Library Conference Award application deadline is December 30, 2006 for meetings to be held in 2007. No applications were received in 2005. Marianne Mason suggested that GODORT mail applications and information directly to library directors at Federal Depository libraries in Iowa.

Spring Membership Survey

In the spring the GODORT Executive Board distributed an electronic survey to members and potential members to see what kinds of activities, programming and information sources would be useful to those working in libraries. Results of the survey are available at the following web page:

https://survey.uiowa.edu/wswebtop.dll/WSPubReport?esid=643&subaccountid=116

Results of the survey were discussed. Ideas to attract new members and workshop/event attendees included continuing to hold events in central locations, partnering with similar government-document groups in neighboring states, posting government-information “pathfinders” at the GODORT website, hosting virtual workshops and training sessions on the ICN Network or Internet, and focusing recruiting efforts on staff at public and special libraries.

The meeting was adjourned.
