Contributed articles are welcome. Contact Joyce Lindstrom, Social Science and Humanities Dept., 152 Parks Library, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011-2140; (515) 964-8069; fax (515) 294-5525; e-mail: lindstro@iastate.edu
As the year draws to a close, I have been looking back over our accomplishments. I have enjoyed meeting and working with my excellent Executive Board and appreciate all of their efforts this year. We have continued the tradition of offering a successful and timely summer workshop, as well as sponsoring two concurrent sessions and a state documents display at ILA. We also managed to add a little money to the ILA/GODORT coffers. We were successful in getting our web page posted on the ILA site and began publishing and distributing our newsletter electronically. Our membership stands at 44 and includes librarians from the Regents institutions, State Library, public libraries, academic and community college libraries, state agencies, and regional libraries.
Before long, ILA membership renewals
will be finding their way to your mailbox.
Please renew your ILA/GODORT membership. Your dues benefits include this
newsletter and free registration at the summer workshop. Also consider volunteering to serve on
the ILA/GODORT Executive Board for 2002.
We're always looking for a few good folks to serve!
If you have
suggestions for topics or presenters for the summer workshop and ILA Conference,
please contact one of the officers.
Also consider submitting an article on a topic of interest to this
newsletter. Your input is always
welcome.
Thank you again to Joy Tofteland, Joyce Lindstrom, Greg Wool, Hank Zalatel, and Kathy Parsons, and Mary McInroy for all of their support and assistance this year. I look forward to serving as Past Chair for the new Executive Board next year. Newly elected officers are: Joy Tofteland, Chair; Joyce Lindstrom, Vice-Chair/Chair Elect; Barbara Corson, Secretary/Treasurer.
A total of 29 people attended the
Census 2000 Update on Thursday, October 19. Matthew Milbrodt from the Kansas City
office of the Census Bureau discussed the data products and proposed release
dates for Census information. On
Friday, October 20, Dan Combs, Director of the Bureau of Digital Government,
assisted by Roy Kenagy, Information Services Manager for the State Library,
discussed the state's electronic document repository and the plans, concerns,
and issues involved in moving to a more digital government. An audience of 45 people participated in
the session. Greg Wool and Joyce
Lindstrom did an excellent job of pulling together state documents for the
ILA/GODORT display.
MINUTES OF THE ILA/GODORT BUSINESS MEETING
The annual business meeting of the
Iowa Library Association Government Documents Roundtable was called to order in
the Scheman Building at Iowa State University, at 8:00 AM by the Chair, Karen
Dole. Thirteen people were
present.
The minutes
of the last meeting were published in the March issue of the Documents
Roundtable News. Hank Lehman moved
to dispense with the reading of the minutes and to approve them as
published. The motion was seconded
by Steve Duffy and passed unanimously.
Joyce Lindstrom read the Treasurer’s report which showed a balance of
$1,100.52 in the treasury. Dole
reported that the following members had agreed to serve as officers for the next
year: Chair, Joy Tofteland
(Kirkendall Public Library, Ankeny); Vice Chair/Chair Elect, Joyce Lindstrom
(Iowa State University); Secretary/Treasurer, Barbara Corson (State Library of
Iowa). This slate of officers was
elected unanimously.
The Chair announced that the drawing for the state documents
in the GODORT display would take place at 10:30 that morning and that anyone
wanting reimbursement for the cost of the breakfast should see her. It was suggested that members be
reminded of the policy to reimburse members for the cost of the GODORT breakfast
by a notice in the newsletter around the time for registration.
Distribution of the Documents Roundtable News was discussed. This year we have been distributing the
newsletter in both electronic and paper format. It was decided by a unanimous vote to
discontinue routine distribution of the paper starting in 2001. The newsletter will be distributed
electronically, as the text of an email message and as a Word attachment. We will mail paper copies if no email
address is available for a member.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Lindstrom,
Secretary
