Words from the Chair

The year is almost over and my tenure as Chair is drawing to a close. I have enjoyed working with the Executive Board and appreciate everyone's support for our activities this year. We continued the tradition of offering a successful summer workshop, as well as sponsoring a concurrent session and a documents display at ILA. If you have suggestions for topics or presenters for the summer workshop and ILA Conference, please contact one of the officers. Also consider submitting an article on a topic of interest to this newsletter. Your input is always welcome. Thanks again to all of you for your support and assistance this year. I look forward to serving as Past Chair for the new Executive Board next year.

We're on the Web

An ILA/GODORT website has been created and can be found at http//www.public.iastate.edu/~lindstro/ilagodort_home.htm. Laurie Hews will be creating a link to this website from the ILA home page. The most recent annual reports and newsletters, as well as some additional basic information has been posted. We are seeking suggestions for additions and enhancements. Please let us know what you would like to see included.

ILA Fall Conference Recap

The concurrent session sponsored by ILA/GODORT was presented by Hank Zaletel on "State Documents For Free or Low Cost" . The presentation was well attended and lots of free documents were dispersed. Joyce Lindstrom and Barbara Corson assembled a display of the "Notable Government Documents for 2001" together with a selection of state documents.

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS ROUNDTABLE

IOWA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Government Documents Roundtable is to promote documents library service by providing an avenue for discussion of problems and concerns and for exchange of ideas among librarians working with government publications in all types of libraries.

ACTIVITIES

The 17th Annual Government Documents Workshop took place July 12, 2002, at the Parks Library, Iowa State University. The workshop, "A Melange of Government Information", featured Willis J. Goudy, Professor of Sociology atISU, who spoke on "Population Change in Iowa and the Nation." The presentation was followed with updates by Joyce Linstrom on issues related to federal documents and Barb Corson with information about the state documents program. The final session was a discussion of the Iowa Plan for Federal Depository Collections. A committee, chaired by Marianne Mason, has begun the process of updating the plan. Approximately 26 people attended the workshop.

GODORT sponsored one session at the ILA Fall Conference in Des Moines. The GODORT Executive Board displayed Library Journal's 2001's Notable Government Documents and notable Iowa documents donated by the State Library'sDepository Program. The Iowa documents were given away in a drawing and the Burlington Public Library was the winner.

Organized a successful Government Documents Workshop

Sponsored one session & a government documents display at the Fall Conference

Worked with the ILA webmaster to provide a link to ILA/GODORT web page on the ILA web site.
