Administrative Notes. Technical Supplement is a GPO, Library Programs Service's monthly newsletter which updates various FDLP related publications, directories, depository listings, etc.

Ask the Regional Librarian, Marianne Mason, about FDLP policy interpretation, discarding depository publications and general information about the federal depository program.

Ask the Government Printing Office (AskGPO) about publication/database functionality problems, shipping list questions, claims and similarly related issues.

GOVDOC-Iowa is a forum for discussion of issues surrounding provision of government information in all formats, on both the federal and state levels, not just depository issues and is open to any one interested in government information.

State Plan

Iowa State Plan for Federal Depository Libraries, revised in March 2003, was approved unanimously by each library in Iowa participating in the FDLP.  The list of signatories and approval letters are held with the Regional Librarian at The University of Iowa Libraries.  The purpose of the Plan is to provide documentation of 'best practices' that comply with rules of FDLP participation (see Title 44 USC Chapter 19).

Collection Management

Weeding FDLP Publications: Discarding depository publications is governed by FDLP policy, but is administered in each state by the Regional Librarian.  The process is outline in A Guide for Federal Depositories in Iowa in Constructing Document Exchange Lists.

Important FDLP Resources

Federal Depository Library Handbook replaces and updates earlier editions of FDLP instructions and manuals into a single online publication. Each chapter includes easy to interpret best practices, tips, and resources for library administrators and is 'the' authoritative resource for federal depository management.

FDLP Desktop contains complete information about the FDLP including administering the FDLP in local libraries, managing collections, cataloging guidance, outreach and education opportunities, information about FDL Council, general information about the Program and contact links for GPO staff and programs.

GPO Federal Depository Library Directory is a component of the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP). There are three methods for retrieving Federal Depository Library information: through a clickable map, basic search by keyword, and advanced search by information set.

Resources for Federal Depository Library Administration is a collection of basic GPO Depository rules, regulations, and reference publications, with links to the full-text, that are needed for managing a Federal Depository Library.

Title 44, United States Code is a compilation of federal laws relating to public printing and documents.  Chapter 19 provides the laws governing the Federal Depository Library Program; Chapter 41 provides the enabling legislation for GPO Access and the locator services
