6.4.02. Subj suggested by Jim Duncan, it's a good one.

Possible title (when I was thinking of making a gen pg): Gastric Bypass / Weight Loss Surgery
Advantages of having wls in title: WL has super kei, even tho WLS doesn't,, allows bringing in other procedures, i.e. tummy tuck, w good kei's

A change of mind as I worked this up "on 3rd thought" ... started out just thinking of GP, as suggested by Jim D, then discovered tummy tuck, a slghtly diff form of obesity surgery, so I thought of bringing in t more gen term, making t title Gastric Bypass / Weight Loss Surgery, so that TT could be included. The nice thing about restricting to GP, tho, is that other dir's do not include it at all, which was right away an appealing aspect of t subj, making it a clean JPL subj. But then, thinking of broadening to GP and WLS, I go back and look at other dir's and see that a few do include sections related to that, w rather messy terminology,, so t subj becomes more complicated. I had worked up bw/kw list, taking advantage of kei's, and I realize that t top kei's can all legitimately be included if t pg is just GP (am dropping only tummy tuck 44, panniculectomy 22, abdominoplasty 22)

This is an interesting subj for diff reasons. First for t reasons above -- A good example of a more focused, specialized subj making a better pg than a more gen, less focused subj. Also interesting bec, like weight loss and anorexia, it seems to be a subj that lib/directory/info people don't handle well. I was very surprised to find that none of t standard dir's have a pg on GP. There seems to be a blindness to t issues of obesity, anorexia in dir makers.

When I saw that t standard dir's don't have t subj, I assumed this would be a JPL pg -- almost always if t standard dir's don't cover a subj, then there also won't be a good independent dir's w hi ranking in Google. So I was surprised to find when I looked for jpl sites to find that some of them do in fact include good link pgs, so I was able to use those, and keep it a md/focus pg.

Links seem fr titles to be rather loosely related to "GP," but all of them expt LookSm come fr topten in G srch for "gp"

-6.4.02. Google "tummy tuck bypass" #4. This is a good summary of t many types of related surgery, esp valuable when I was thinking of a more gen pg, but also helpful in understanding GP in more narrow sense.

Intestinal bypass - (no longer done) This procedure has evolved and improved since it was first introduced some twenty years ago. In the early days, intestinal bypass -- which is totally different from gastric bypass -- had some very serious complications. Compared to the intestinal bypass, gastric bypass is relatively safe with fewer complications.

Panniculectomy The removal of the tissue and skin from the abdomen. A tummy tuck (never use the term tummy tuck when communicating with an insurance company. They like to deny this surgery!)

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB) This operation is the most common gastric bypass procedure. ... The procedure is more extensive than the VBG (below). Some people prefer it because of a a sick feeling that results (called "dumping") ...

Vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) This procedure is becoming the most frequently used restrictive operation for weight control. It is less extensive than the RNY (above). ...
