
Borrowing Privileges:
Anyone with a valid University of Iowa identification card may borrow materials from any of the University's libraries. Clients unaffiliated with the University may, under certain circumstances, be permitted to check materials out of the Libraries. Application for a borrower's permit may be made at the Information Desk.

Journals have a limited loan period. They can be checked out anytime during the day and are due back before closing the following day. The "green dot" or display journals located on the current journal display shelves circulate for 2 hours only. There are no renewals or extended loans on journals. For exceptional problems such as photographic reproduction, etc., please inquire of the staff at the Information Desk. |

Books
All books subject to recall anytime after the original two weeks of the loan.
**Faculty/Professional and Scientific Staff loan
This is an extended loan with a due date of June 1, but subject to recall anytime after the original two weeks of the loan.
2 week loan
Shorter loan periods on browsing books or those marked "2 week loan."
Renewals:
Faculty and Professional/Scientific staff loans (and long term loans due June 1) must be renewed in person only.
Graduate and Professional students (semester loans) must be renewed in person only.
2 week and 4 week book loans may be renewed in InfoHawk (My Account) or by phone.
There are no renewals or extended loans on journals or Reserve materials.
Overdue materials must be renewed in person only.
Recalled materials may not be renewed.
Recalls:
All library books may be recalled after a 2- week loan period. Materials needed for Reserve may be recalled at any time.
Email notices are sent to the borrower's address. A 5 day period is allowed for the return of the book without penalty. Borrowers who are away from their offices (vacation, leaves, etc.) will be held responsible for the return of recalled books; library materials should be readily available for office personnel to return upon recall or a current address where the borrower may be contacted should be given.
Recall items through InfoHawk by clicking the "recall" button which is located next to the due date of the item.
Fines:
Overdue books (materials circulating for 2 weeks or longer)--Fines do not accrue on a daily basis. If an item is not returned at the point of billing (typically 4-8 weeks after its due date), a non-refundable replacement fine of $10.00 is charged along with replacement cost of the item.
Recalled books--$4.00 per day to a maximum of $40.00
Overdue journals--$ .50 per day to a maximum of $15.00
Reserve Materials--$2.40 per hour/ .04 minute to a maximum of $40.00
The fine charges will appear on the patron's University bill and are payable only to the University of Iowa Business Office.
Miscellaneous Services:
A faculty member may give authorization to have materials charged out in his/her name. Signed authorization cards are kept on file at the Circulation Desk and a barcoded card is issued to the authorized borrower.
Request Material for Delivery to Another University of Iowa Library
Library users may request that materials owned by one University of Iowa Library be sent to and held for pickup at another University of Iowa Library. To request a book that is not available on-campus use Interlibrary Loan.
