"Healthy Iowans 2010: Integrating Information with Public Health Planning and Delivery"
Electronic Mail Discussion Lists (sometimes referred to as "listservs") allow group members to easily communicate via e-mail without each member having to individually keep a long list of e-mail addresses. By using a single e-mail address you can send messages to the entire group and carry on large-scale discussions. You can use Electronic Mailing DiscussionLists for a variety of purposes, including:

E-mail messages that are intended for only one or two people should NOT be disseminated to the group. The same applies to mail of a personal nature.

Below are the EMDL's associated with the HI2010 Project. If you submitted an e-mail address on the "Baseline Survey" during or after the October 30th "Kick-Off" Meeting" in Des Moines, you were automatically added to the "big" list (hi2010@list.uiowa.edu). If you have not yet subscribed to this list or any of the other lists appropriate to your team, you can do so by following the instructions given below. PLEASE NOTE: Even though you may have subscribed to your chapter teams individual list, you should also subscribe to the "big" list (hi2010@list.uiowa.edu).

If you have questions about any of the HI2010 electronic discussion lists















To send a message to all of the members of your group, simply send your message to the appropriate "group address" from the table, above. Your e-mail will automatically be sent to all members of your group. When you REPLY to a group message, your message will ONLY go to the original sender unless you specify "reply to all" or change the "To:" line to the group address.

To subscribe to a list, simply address an e-mail to the "utility address" from the table above. Leave the subject field blank and put the single word, "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the body of the message. To unsubscribe, simply put the single word, "unsubscribe" in the body of the message.

To find out who is on a mailing list, send the following command to the "utility address" from the table above. Leave the subject field blank and put the single word, "who" (without the quotes) in the body of the message. In reply to this message, you will receive a list of the subscribers. If you are not already a subscriber, you will receive an error message. You will then need to subscribe to the list.

If your team (or another HI2010 group wishes to set up an electronic mail discussion list), simply send an e-mail to Ed Holtum at edwin-holtum@uiowa.edu and explain what the list is for. I will then make the appropriate arrangements with the Information Technology Center at the University of Iowa and set up the list for you. I will also need a list of the e-mail addresses you would like me to add to the list. Afterwards, as more members wish to joint, they may join the new list anytime (see "How to Subscribe to a List", above).
