Dorsal view of an American Dog Tick, Dermacentor variabilis, magnified 21x. Ticks are of the class Arachnida, as are spiders and mites. D. variabilis is a known carrier of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever caused by the bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii.
