This slide of a patient with chickenpox, demonstrates the difference between smallpox and chickenpox on the 5th day of rash. By the 5th day of chickenpox, the rash can be observed on the face. Many of the pocks have scabs, whereas, there are no scabs present by the 5th day of smallpox. Both papules and vesicles can be seen, with a few pustules present on the forehead.
