Here, a specimen is about to be collected from this patient who presented with symptoms including a penile discharge. Most Neisseria and related species are normal flora in humans and animals, however, some species such as N. gonorrhoeae are pathogens in normal hosts and those species known to be commensal, may be opportunistic pathogens.
