This individual with measles is displaying red Koplik spots on his buccal mucosa during the 3rd day of the rash. Koplik's spots occur 1-2 days before to 1-2 days after the cutaneous rash. Their presence is considered to be pathognomonic for measles, and appear as punctate blue-white spots on the bright red background of the oral buccal (cheek) mucosa. Picture & text from CDC/PHIL.
