Reserve Policies

The Collection

This self-serve area contains a wide variety of materials including:

Search the InfoHawk UI Course Reserves database by course instructor, course name, course number, title, author, department and more.

Library books that are on Reserve will indicate PERMANENT RESERVE or COURSE RESERVE in InfoHawk.

In-House Policies

Any materials a patron wishes to take from the Reserve Area must be checked out.

Borrowing Privileges

To borrow materials from the Reserve Area, you must have a University of Iowa identification card or a borrower's permit. Visitors to the library may also borrow materials for in-library use by presenting a driver's license.

Loan Periods

Items are checked out for a 2 hour period, unless otherwise noted (a small number of materials circulate for 3 days and are marked accordingly). Most 2 hour loans may be taken out of the library but the 3rd floor desk attendant must be informed of this when the material is signed out as additional processing and patron information is required. There is no waiting list for Reserve items already checked out.

Overnight check-out: 2 hour loans may be taken out 2 hours before the Library closes or at 10:00 p.m., whichever comes first. The item is due back the next morning.

Renewal Policy:
No renewals for Reserve materials.
2 hour loans: Must stay on shelf for 30 minutes before re-checkout.
3 day loans: Must stay on shelf for 60 minutes before re-checkout.
1 week loans: No restrictions

Loan Limit

There is a 4 item limit on items checked out from the Reserve Area . Special permission to borrow more than 4 items can only be given by the Access Services Supervisor.

Fines

2 hour items and overnight videos: $ 2.40 per hour to a maximum of $40.00 per item.
3 day items: $4.00 per day to a maximum of $40.00 per item.
