Frequently Asked Questions
InfoHawk Library Catalog . . . How Do I Use It?
How can I find out if the library has a book?
You can find out if the UI Libraries owns a book by searching the InfoHawk library catalog. For items not found in the online catalog, please ask a librarian. If you need assistance finding a book or other item, ask at the Main Library Reference/Information Desk on the first floor, call 335-5299, or send an instant (IM) or text message (make sure you begin any text messages with uiowalibref followed by a space and use 'short code' 265010).
How Do I Learn to Use It?
Questions may be referred to the Main Library Information Desk (first floor, phone 335-5299) or to information desks at any branch library.
Patrons may also chat with a member of the library staff through the Chat Online Instant Messaging or text message service.
For printed assistance, patrons may help themselves to any of the InfoHawk handouts on the rack across from the Information Desk, first floor central, Main Library. Handouts are also available online through the Instructional Services website.
Note also the 'help' link on the top bar of all InfoHawk catalog screens.
InfoLink buttons appear in the library catalog and many of the subscription databases. InfoLink will list delivery options related to whatever item you wish to view. For example, click on the InfoLink to: see if the full text of an article is available online for immediate access; to check instead the UI library catalog to see if a journal or book is owned by the library; or to choose to order an item through Interlibrary Loan; or click to get assistance from a librarian. The button may have a different appearance in some databases. InfoLink buttons appear only in the databases that allow InfoLink functionality.
In the example below, the article “Content Reading Assessment: A Rethinking of Methodology,” published in The Clearing House, is available in full text from three vendors.
