A Pictorial History: The University of Iowa Libraries – Rev. Joseph T. Robert

Joseph Rich referred to the years of 1863 – 1867 as the “Dark Ages of the Library,” saying that the librarians of this time did not provide annual reports to the Board of Trustees, and appropriations over these years totaling only $3,250 prevented any growth of the library.
