Clicking on the "Review/Combine Searches" link at the top of the screen will open a page listing all the sets created during your search session in the catalog. Sets are created automatically while searching and viewing results. You may also mark records to create a subset of records that you may then combine with other searches
While reviewing and combining searches, if you want to see the results of a previous search, check the box to the left of that search set and click the blue "View" button. Only one set can be viewed at a time.
If you wish to delete previous searches, you can either delete them one at a time, by checking the box to the left and clicking the "Delete" button or by clicking "End Session" at the top of the page. BE CAREFUL when using "End Session" because this will also delete all records you have marked and saved. Make sure you have already printed, e-mailed or saved records in Your Basket before clicking "End Session”.
If you wish to combine previous searches, check the two boxes to the left of the sets you wish to combine, then click the "Cross" button. See "Crossing Searches" for more information.
If you wish to combine previous searches, check the boxes to the left of the sets you wish to combine, then click the "Cross" button. For “And” and “Or” crosses, you may select multiple sets. “First set not second” and “Second set not first” crosses only work with two sets at a time. If you wish to combine more than two sets using these “not” operators, start by crossing two sets, then cross the results with the third set.
After you click on the "Cross" button, a pop up screen will ask you how you wish to combine the previous search sets. Selecting "And" will decrease the number of hits in your results by restricting the results to those records with the terms common to both sets. Selecting "Or" will increase the number of hits in your results by including all records with the terms from the first set and all records with terms from the second set, eliminating any duplicate hits. Selecting "First set not second" or "Second set not first" will strip any hits from the latter set out of the results.
Example:
Set 1: White Sox Set 2: Black Sox
Cross Set 1 AND Set 2 Results: All records with both White Sox and Black Sox Cross Set 1 OR Set 2 Results: All records with White Sox and All records with Black Sox Cross Set 1 not Set 2 Results: All records with White Sox but none with Black Sox Cross Set 2 not Set 1 Results: All records with Black Sox but none with White Sox
Clicking on "End Session" at the top of the screen will automatically delete all the searches you have done. But be careful, this will also delete all records you have marked and saved (unless you have already printed, emailed or saved them to a disk).
