To reserve the room Contact Kathy Magarrell (kathy-magarrell@uiowa.edu) to reserve the room. To check the room’s availability, use Outlook’s Calendar. It’s best to schedule a 15-minute set-up time if possible. The room If you bring in extra chairs, move the chairs back out of the room after class. Pick up all papers, pencils, etc. The workstations should be left with the keyboards sitting in front of monitor and the mouse sitting along the side of the keyboard. When you finish, also make sure that a single chair is positioned at each workstation and all workstations, projection system, and lights are turned off and door is locked. Please lock the room any time you are not in it, even if you and your class are just taking a five-minute break. It is easy for someone to slip in and take or damage some equipment when no one is there. NOTE: There are really two doors side-by-side. The key locks and unlocks the door on the right. Most people don’t bother to unlock the door on the left unless they want to move something large into or out of the room. But if you do want to unlock it, there is a lever near the top on the inside edge of the left door. If you do unlock the left door be sure to re-lock it using that lever. If you do not re-lock the door on the left, people can get into the room without a key simply by pulling on the door handle. Computers When you turn the student computers on, you do not need a password. For the instructor's station computer you will need to use your Hawk ID. Because they are configured like public workstations, student computers will “time out” and go back to the Libraries’ home page after 10 minutes of sitting idle. If you want to disconnect any hardware or connect any additional hardware, please contact LIT (formerly ISST) for help. That will help prevent damage to the computers, cables, etc. After the class turn all the computers off (Exit all windows and then use the "shut down" method rather than just turning off the computers). Please turn off the monitors when they go into “shut down” mode. Projection equipment When using the ceiling projector, NEVER use the on/off button on the side of the remote control. ONLY use the on/off button on the top of the remote. When you turn the ceiling projector off, a message will appear on the projection screen (not on the computer screen) asking if you really want to turn it off. To indicate "yes," just press the off button a second time. Lights There are three light switches near the instructor’s station. The two round switches control the lights that can be dimmed. Press the round switches to turn those lights on and off. White Board There's a white board on the west wall. Please use only the markers specially created for white boards. Do NOT use a magic marker. The markers are on the tray at the bottom edge of the white board. Gary says that when in need of more dry-erase markers people can just notify Pat Hogan but to make sure they specify that the markers are for the dry-erase board. Please erase the white board after your class has ended. There is an eraser on the table by the door. Equipment Problems lib-it-help@list.uiowa.edu). Report a burned out projector bulb to LIT. LIT will contact the person on campus who replaces projector bulbs and LIT can also bring up a portable projector that you can use until the bulb is replaced. Please let Kathy Magarrell (kathy-magarrell@uiowa.edu) know that an equipment report was made. Projection System Checklist
