About this
project
The Mary
Noble Postcard Collection Exhibit was a project of the Digital Library class at
the School of Library and Information Science, University of Iowa, Spring 2000
semester.
The three students responsible were: Adam Burke, Alysia Peich
and Kelsie Whitten. Dr. Cavan McCarthy taught the course and helped with this
project.
The objective of the project was to promote one of the many
unique collections of the Iowa Women's Archives.
The Mary Noble Postcard Collection was considered especially
suitable for presentation via Internet. Its materials are unique and of wide
interest; they provide a vivid insight into life and society as it was in Iowa
about a century ago.
Postcards and Internet are media which share basic
characteristics: they are both widely and easily distributed but ephemeral in
nature; both offer high quality images with strong visual impact.
This digital library has been designed in such a way that further
postcards can be easily incorporated at a later date.
Special thanks goes to Karen M. Mason, Curator of the Iowa
Women's Archives, for allowing access to the Mary Noble Postcard Collection and
for giving guidance about this project.
