10th Anniversary Celebrations
A symposium “Making Women’s History: The Louise Noun–Mary Louise Smith Iowa Women’s Archives at Ten Years” was held in October. Panelists focused on several strengths of the Archives — politics, African American women, and rural life — and pondered future directions for collection and use. Gerda Lerner, a founder of the field of women’s history, and Christine Grant, internationally known advocate of gender equity in sports, were keynote speakers.
In April, the Friends of the Libraries sponsored a reception featuring award winning filmmaker and UI alumna Marian Rees. Her papers are held by the Iowa Women’s Archives and include scripts, publicity materials, and production files from the many films she produced.
A major exhibition, “Women Making History: Selections from the Iowa Women’s Archives,” was created for the tenth anniversary.
