This collection includes manuscript drafts, newspaper articles by Benson, photographs, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/5542\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mildred Wirt Benson\u2019s Memory Book<\/a>\u00a0is a digital copy of a scrapbook Benson kept during her high school and college years. Other digitized materials from Benson\u2019s papers can also be found at the <a href=\"http:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa Digital Library<\/a>, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/15882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mildred Wirt Benson correspondence with University of Iowa Libraries staff, 1953-1982.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Benson, Mildred (Augustine) Wirt folder in the <a href=\"http:\/\/aspace.lib.uiowa.edu\/repositories\/3\/resources\/930\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alumni and Former Students Vertical File Collection<\/a> at the Special Collections and University Archives, University of Iowa Libraries contains articles and University related materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Benson, Mildred Augustine Wirt correspondence folder in Iowa Authors, Administrative Files at the\u00a0Special Collections and University Archives, University of Iowa Libraries holds letters from Frank Paluka and other staff members as they search out and collect books by Mildred Wirt Benson for the Iowa Room. Special Collections holds an extensive collection of her novels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/aspace.lib.uiowa.edu\/repositories\/4\/resources\/2548\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carolyn Dyer papers<\/a>, found at the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives, contain materials from the 1993 Nancy Drew Conference, including testimonials from readers all over the country on what Nancy Drew meant to them. Also in this collection over 100 Mildred Wirt Benson books, which span multiple decades and include several copies in foreign languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/aspace.lib.uiowa.edu\/repositories\/4\/resources\/2195\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nancy Drew Collection<\/a>, housed at the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives, is an ongoing collection of materials relating to the 1993 Nancy Drew Conference and Mildred Wirt Benson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/aspace.lib.uiowa.edu\/repositories\/4\/resources\/2048\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa Women&#8217;s Hall of Fame Records<\/a>, also located at the Iowa Women&#8217;s Archives, holds Benson&#8217;s 1994 application to the Hall of Fame, written by Carolyn Dyer on her behalf.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><em>Books &amp; Excerpts<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Frank Paluka,\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowaheritage.org\/items\/show\/52037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mildred A Wirt<\/a>,&#8221;\u00a0<em>Iowa Authors\u00a0<\/em>(1967): 197-208.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Carolyn Dyer and Nancy Tillman Romalov, <em>Rediscovering Nancy Drew<\/em>\u00a0(University of Iowa Press, 2015), a compilation of scholarly essays and other writings from the Nancy Drew Conference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Melanie Rehak, Girl<em> Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her <\/em>(Harcourt, Inc., 2005).\u00a0This book that looks at the roles of Edward Stratemeyer, Harriet Adams, and Mildred Wirt Benson in the creation of Nancy Drew, as well as how her character endured and grew through the decades. Both this book and <em>Rediscovering Nancy Drew <\/em>can be found in the book stacks at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iowa Women\u2019s Archives<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Julie K. Rubini<em>,\u00a0Missing Millie Benson: The Secret Case of the Nancy Drew Ghostwriter and Journalist\u00a0<\/em>(Ohio University Press, 2015), an in-depth biography on Mildred Wirt Benson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/4058\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1924 State University of Iowa yearbook<\/a>. Mildred Augustine is mentioned for being involved with soccer (259), joining the Cosmopolitan Club (387), and participating in the Freshman Women&#8217;s Literary Society (409).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/1359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1925 State University of Iowa yearbook<\/a>. Mildred Augustine is shown for joining Hawkeye Staff (183) and the Daily Iowan (185), successfully auditioning for the Seals Club (304), and continuing with the Cosmopolitan Club (458).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/954\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1926 State University of Iowa yearbook<\/a>. Mildred Augustine&#8217;s senior picture is in this album (64), along with photos and mentions for being involved with the Hawkeye Staff (187), Orchestra (212), the Seals Club (320), Theta Sigma Phi (457), the Athena Literary Society (479), the Cosmopolitan Club (481), and Kappa Phi (489).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1928 State University of Iowa yearbook<\/a>. Mildred Augustine is noted for being involved with the Seals Club (327) and Theta Sigma Phi (454) as a graduate student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><em>Essays &amp; Articles<\/em><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Mildred Wirt Benson,<em>\u00a0&#8220;<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/scua\/bai\/benson.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Ghost of Ladora<\/a>,&#8221;\u00a0<em>Books at Iowa <\/em>19 (November 1973): 24-29. This piece reflects on her writing career and passion for adventure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe Adventurous Millie Benson,\u201d\u00a0<em>The People\u2019s Voice<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>3, no. 4 (December 1974).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/node\/42919\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Secret of the Ghost (Writer) of Ladora<\/a>,&#8221; published in the University of Iowa Alumni Review, volume 38, number 3, May\/June 1985 (24).
