Iowa was the tenth state to ratify the amendment when it did so in July 1919. The University of Iowa is hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/hardwonnotdone.wordpress.com\/\">series of events<\/a> reflecting on the centennial of women\u2019s suffrage and the work for full representation and political rights that continues today.<\/p>\n<h3>Essay contest<\/h3>\n<p>To encourage original research on the history of political activism by Iowa women prior to and after ratification, the University of Iowa is sponsoring an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/suffrage\/hard-won-not-done-essay-competition\/\">essay competition<\/a> for UI undergraduate and graduate students.<\/p>\n<h3>Resources on women&#8217;s suffrage and political participation<\/h3>\n<p>The Iowa Women\u2019s Archives and the University of Iowa Libraries hold many resources that document participation in the fight for the vote and women&#8217;s political activism before and after 1920.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/sdrc.lib.uiowa.edu\/exhibits\/suffrage\/\"><strong>Iowa\u2019s Suffrage Scrapbook, 1854-1920<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0&#8212; an online exhibit that provides a chronology of the suffrage movement in Iowa<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/islandora\/object\/ui%3Asuffrage\"><strong>Women\u2019s Suffrage in Iowa Digital Collection<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 &#8212; a collection of images and documents in the Iowa Digital Library drawn from the Iowa Women&#8217;s Archives, the State Historical Society of Iowa, and Iowa State University&#8217;s Special Collections Department<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/guides.lib.uiowa.edu\/suffrage\">Women, Suffrage, and Citizenship<\/a><\/strong>\u2014a guide to resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0;\" align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/files\/getimage1.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Votes for Women&quot; button\" width=\"149\" height=\"136\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Iowa&#8217;s Suffrage Scrapbook and the Women&#8217;s Suffrage in Iowa Digital Collection were created in 2010 with funding from the State Historical Society, Inc.
