Circulation Policies

Circulation Policies for Open-Stack Books with Call Numbers

Undergraduate Students: 4 weeks
Graduate Students: 1 semester
Faculty and Professional & Scientific Staff: 1 year
Merit Staff: 4 weeks
Permit Holders: varies

Non-Circulating Items: Some books in the open stacks may not be checked-out. They must be used only in the library because of their historical value, fragile condition, or frequent use as a reference source.

Renewal: Items checked out for 4 weeks or less (except journals) may be renewed over in person or over the phone. Items checked out on semester or yearly loans must be returned to the library for renewal.

Recall: Items may be recalled for the use of others after two weeks, but may be recalled immediately if needed for course reserve

Undergraduate Students: 1 week

Circulation Policies for Reserve Materials

Most reserve items can be checked out for 2 hours. However, if a reserve item is checked out within 2 hours of the library's closing time, it will be due within the first hour of the library’s next opening time. Some reserve items can be checked out for 2 hours but must be used only in the library. There are also some reserve items that can be checked out for 3 days.

Fines for an overdue reserve items: For 2-hour reserve items, fines accrue at $2.40 per hour. Fines for an overdue 3-day reserve item accrue at $4.00 per day.
