Preservation Department - Thesis Binding

Binding Personal Copies of Theses

As a service to University of Iowa graduates, the Preservation Department binds personal copies of theses or dissertations for a special rate of $30.00 per volume.

This special rate is available only to University of Iowa graduates for theses and dissertations produced here.

This special rate includes the cost of processing items to and from The University Libraries’ commercial binder as well as all labor and materials involved.

Personal copies are sent for commercial binding as part of regular, tri-weekly binding shipments. Turnaround time for this service is from six to eight weeks, depending on when items are sent for binding.

H. F. Group will not process any orders paid by personal check until the check has cleared the bank. To avoid delays we recommend payment by money order or credit card.

REQUEST FOR SERVICE*

Bring desired number of copies to the Preservation Department for binding between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Preservation is located on the ground floor of the Main Library, across from the Shipping Department. There is a sign across the hall from the Circulation desk, inside the South entrance to Main, directing people downstairs to Preservation. Please refer any questions you may have to Deb Miller, at 319-335-5816 or email: debbie-miller@uiowa.edu.

METHODS OF PAYMENT

No theses or dissertation will be sent for commercial binding unless one of the payment options below is fulfilled.

Payment By Student

Theses or dissertations must be accompanied by a check, money order or credit card made out to H. F. Group at the time binding service is requested.

Payment By University Department

A University Department may pay for the binding of personal theses and dissertation copies in either one of two ways:

1. Furnish an individual with an official, blue requisition form made out to: University Libraries (Binding), Attn: Sydney Gussman. This requisition is to be delivered to the Preservation Department with the items to be bound at the time binding service is requested.

2. A Department may elect to set up its own account with H. F. Group. In this case a thesis or dissertation submitted to the Preservation Department for binding must be accompanied by a completed, pre-printed binding ticket with the Department’s account number written on it. The order must be boxed, labeled and accompanied with a shipment record.

Please contact Tammi Keefer at H. F. Group, 1-800-334-3628 to set up a binding account.

RETURN SHIPMENT

H. F. Group will return all bound copies to whatever ONE address is specified on the binding ticket. This address must be a street address (not a p.o. box) and within the continental United States. Please allow six to eight weeks for delivery.

* Since the Preservation Department processes theses for commercial binding as a service, the individuals/departments making use of it are responsible for any and all follow-up activity relating to problems or corrections.

** The commercial binder reserves the right to select the most appropriate type of leaf attachment, size of lettering, positioning (vertical or horizontal) of spine information as well as the best resolution for truncation issues.
