The Preservation Department consists of two facilities in Main Library totaling 4,500 square feet. The preservation Librarian’s office is located in the Administrative area of the Main Library.
Our central facility accommodates item identification marking, bindery preparation, assessment/reformatting for damaged materials and book repair. Book repair includes a work station for double fan adhesive binding repair and in-house binding. The assessment and reformatting operation includes our preservation photocopy and imaging work area with a Ricoh Afício MP C3000 and Minolta DP 7000 scanner. Bindery preparation uses the LARS based bindery interface and the Binding/Marking unit provides various terminals to our Aleph/ExLibris based InfoHawk library system.
The conservation lab provides flexible work space for treatment projects including oversized flatwork, exhibit preparation, encapsulation, aqueous treatments, fume hood and testing work.
