Audio-Visual Materials
Audio-visual materials are for in-library use only, unless needed for class presentations or for previewing purposes by course instructors, in which case they may be checked out for three days. Overdue fines are $2.00 per day per item.
Books
Books and theses in the open stacks—unless otherwise marked—may be checked out by faculty and professional & scientific staff until the following June 1 unless recalled earlier. Graduate students may check outbooks for one semester unless recalled earlier. Undergraduate students, merit staff, and community borrowers may check out books for 4 weeks unless recalled earlier. Items borrowed for 4 weeks may be renewed via "My Account"; if you have difficulties using My Account, contact us. Community borrowers can use this form. All such items are subject to recall by another reader after the initial 2 weeks of the loan.
There is a non-refundable fee of $10.00 per item if books are so overdue that they are billed.
There are some items in the open stacks that can be checked out for only 1 day or only 3 days. They are marked on the date-due slip inside the front cover of the book. Overdue fines on these items are $0.50 per day per item. There are also some items in the open stacks that cannot be checked out due to their historical or reference value. They may be used only in the library and are marked "noncirculating" inside the front cover of the book.
The Psychology Library also offers retrieval of items from storage and delivery from other libraries for faculty, students, staff, and borrower permit holders. To use this service, complete this form.
InfoHawk: "My Account"
Clicking on "My Account" in InfoHawk allows you to review your loans and recall requests. The "loans" list will indicate due dates, items recalled from you, and any items that are overdue or billed.
Journals
Journals may be checked out for 2 hours only. However, if a journal is checked out within 2 hours of closing, it will be due 1 hour after the library opens the next day. Overdue fines are $2.40 per hour per item. Journals may be renewed in person, but not over the telephone.
Microforms
Microforms (both microfilm and microfiche) of books or theses may be checked out for the same length of time listed above under "Books."
If you need to photocopy a journal microform, you may check out the microform for 1 day (i.e., it will be due back in the Psychology Library by closing time the next day). Photocopying equipment for microforms is available in Media Services at Main Library (located on the 1st floor). Overdue fines for 1-day check out are $0.50 per day per item.
Recalls
If an item is checked out to another patron, it can be recalled. You can do this in InfoHawk by clicking on the"location" link in an InfoHawk book record. Next, click on the "recall" link and sign in when prompted. Click on the "recall" link once again, then log out. It will be at least 1 week before the item becomes available;you will be notified when the item has been returned and is ready for you to check out. If you have difficulties using InfoHawk, contact us.
All books checked out from the open stacks can be recalled by another patron or if needed for Reserve. Patrons are guaranteed to have a book for at least 2 weeks unless it is recalled by Reserve; Reserve may recall a book even in the first 2 weeks of a loan.
The library will send the borrower of a recalled book a special notice alerting him or her of the new (likely earlier) due date. Overdue fines for recalled items are $4.00 per day per item. Promptly returning recalled books is of utmost importance.
When classes are in session, being out of town or failing to maintain a current address will not be considered valid excuses for their delayed return. When you are out of town, please either return your library books or ensure that someone else can respond to your mail and return your books in a timely fashion.
Reference Books
Reference books cannot be checked out of the library.

Community borrowers may check out Reserve materials for in-library use only.
