Services

Course Reserves
Materials that faculty have requested limited to a short term loan of usually 2 hours or 3 days are available at the Main Library and most campus libraries. The Course Reserve database includes the most complete listing of materials on reserve.

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery
Books, journal articles, theses and other research materials not owned by the University of Iowa Libraries can usually be borrowed through interlibrary loan from other libraries.

Reference and Research Consultations
Reference librarians at the University of Iowa Libraries offer a consultation service to University of Iowa faculty, staff and students. The purpose of this service is to provide access and direction to research materials that pertain to the client's specific project or thesis. UI faculty are invited to use this service as well as to recommend this free service to their students. Online request forms available.

Instructional Services
The Instructional Services Program promotes the development of critical thinking and research skills through a variety of services. We are committed to a collaborative program that responds to the information needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Technology and Multimedia
The University of Iowa Libraries has staff and facilities that support the integration of new technology into teaching, learning, and research.

Circulation
Circulation Services at the Main Library, Hardin Library for the Health Sciences and all branch libraries is where materials are checked out and returned as well as where recalls and searches of materials can be requested.

Library Cards
Appropriate identification is necessary in order to check out materials from the Libraries.

Media Services
Media Services holds non-print materials such as newspapers, videotapes, DVD, laser discs, audio cassettes, and records. Film subjects range from documentaries to feature-length and foreign language films.

Distance Education Library Services
The University of Iowa Libraries provides reference assistance and consultation services as well as document delivery to students enrolled in distance education courses at the University of Iowa.
