Biographical Note
Martin Yoseloff was born on September 8, 1919 in Sioux City, Iowa. When he was seven, his family moved to Spirit Lake. When he was twelve, his family moved again, this time to and Mason City, Iowa. After attending Mason City High School, Yoseloff graduated from Mason City Junior College and then he attended the University of Iowa, where he majored in journalism. At the University of Iowa, he served as managing editor of the Daily Iowan while pursuing graduate studies. He left the University of Iowa in 1935 without receiving his degree.
He went on to serve on the editorial staffs of several New York publishing houses before his army service, from 1943 -- 1946. His first book, No Greener Meadows, was published in 1946. No Greener Meadows was written while he was in the transportation corps and it was a recollection of an Iowa childhood. He wrote articles for various newspapers, including the New York Times and Omaha World Herald, and gathered news for two small Florida dailies, the Fort Lauderdale Daily News and the Daytona Sun Beach Record. In New York, he began a career in book publishing and became president of the publishing firm of Bernard Ackerman, Inc. He is the co-author of a children's version of The Merry Adventures of Til Eulenspiegel, and he edited a symposium entitled Seven Poets in Search of an Answer. He also published an autobiographical work, The Time of My Life.
Martin Yoseloff died in 1997.
