Locations for Items Cited in
'A Bibliography of the History of the  University of Iowa'

This list describes the locations noted in abbreviated form in the Rogers bibliography.

Special Collections Department, Third Floor Main Library: These items may be paged for readers 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday except University holidays. Simply request them at the Special Collections reception desk.

Archives [location] = Items shelved in stack areas. Initial number indicates range; second number specifies section; last number indicates shelf. Description generally records box label. E.g., Archives 10:18:1 denotes the location of range 10, section 17, top shelf for entry no. 778a: Duckworth, Gregg. "Iowa Pre-Flight." Voice of the Hawkeyes 5, no. 2 (September 7, 1988): 14-15, 26, illus. Seahawks football, 1942-1944. Ranges and their sections are labeled with shelf markers.

Archives [call no.] = Items shelved in call number sequence, beginning at 26:01:1. Folio titles shelved beginning at 29:19:1.

Archives [17-### call no.] = Archives' government publications shelved in Swank call number sequence, beginning at 29:14:1.

Archives cataloged books = Items with no call number shelved in alphabetical sequence by author or, on occasion, title, beginning at 25:14:1.

Archives serials and journals = Shelved in alphabetical sequence by title, beginning at 27:11:1.

Archives storage = Shelved in Special Collections basement storage area.

Archives storage (film) = A thesis or dissertation on microfilm.

Archives, in [name of collection] = Shelved within a collection identified by an RG (record group) number.

Iowa Authors = a collection of the work of some 2,000 writers associated with the state of Iowa. Books are catalogued on InfoHawkand shelved in Special Collections in alphabetical order by author. The first part of the alphabet surrounds the reading room, the remainder are on third floor range 18.

"w" Collection = an obsolete location. Ask Special Collections staff to confirm current location; these items may shelve as "x"

"x" collection = the principal shelving sequence of rare books in Special Collections

University of Iowa Libraries and Departments: Readers should go to the library and location indicated to consult these items.

Main = Main Library. Periodicals are shelved by title (not classified); books are classified and arranged by the classification number that can be found on the InfoHawk record.

Main reference = Main Library, Reference Department, Ground Floor

Main reserve = area next to South Circulation area, Main Library

Main T####. = Main Library Thesis collection, Third Floor East or in storage

Art = Art Library

Biology = Biological Sciences Library (BSL)

Business = Marvin A. Pomerantz Business Library, C320 Pappajohn Business Administration Building

Chemistry = 400 Chemistry/Botany Building

Engineering = Lichtenberger Engineering Library, Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences

Geology = Geology Library, 136 Trowbridge Hall

Gov Pub = Government Publications, Main Library

Hardin = The Hardin Library for Health Sciences

Hardin Rare Book Room = John Martin Rare Book Room, Hardin Library for Health Sciences.

IWA = Iowa Women's Archives, Main Library, Third Floor

Law = Law School Library, Boyd Law Building

Media Services =  Media Services Department, Main Library

Music = Rita Benton Music Library, 2000 Voxman Music Bldg.

Physics = Physics Library, 350 Van Allen Hall

Psychology = Psychology Library, W202 Seashore Hall
