superimposed on a map of California and a sketch of the bell tower of
San Gabriel Mission. Marbled paper and leather back strip. The
Archivist for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has issued this
miniature book in honor of the bicentennial of the death of
California's pioneer missionary. B20th 4.

Historical Society of California, July 14, 1987. Bound in light tan
paper wrapper with the title printed in black and a green design that
stretched across the entire wrapper. B20th 6.
Ege, Otto F. The Story of the Alphabet, its Evolution and Development. Van Nuys, CA: Richard J. Hoffman, 1988. 78 pp. 2-3/4" x
2-7/8".
Colophon: The three types used were designed by Frederic W. Goudy,
the great American type designer. The text is in Kennerley, goudy's
first real success in creating a body type. The fanciful initials are
Goudy Ornate, an all-capital font. The display lines on the title
page are Goudy's final thoughts on the alphabet. It is fittingly
called Goudy Thirty and was not released until after his death.
Edition of 250 copies printed by Richard J. Hoffman, and initialed by
him. Text is printed in four colors. This essay was first published
in 1921 by Otto F. Ege, of the Cleveland School of Art, noted for his
collections of Original leaves from famous bibles. Hoffman has
produced miniature books for others but this is the first publication
in which he has selected the subject and specifications. Bound in
decorative cloth over boards with the title on the spine. Green
endpapers with the alphabet and a design printed across them in a
darker green. B20th 7.
