The Fiske Family Papers will document in considerable detail the activities of an Iowa family living in and around Cedar Rapids, Iowa over several generations. Even with Mrs. Fiske's extensive annotation, it will take some while to prepare an inventory of the collection.
Included in the collection, however, are several hundred postcards which Janette Stevenson Murray, Janet Murray Fiske's mother, wrote almost daily from Cedar Rapids to her father, William Stevenson, in Traer, Tama County, Iowa, during the 1930s. While most of these are "penny postcards" with address on one side and message on the other, some are picture postcards -- like these two, mailed in March 1932.
Mrs. Fiske, who now lives in Moscow, Idaho, delivered the first lot of the Papers, some 15 boxes, in late June, driving them cross-country in a station wagon with her granddaughter Kate Hennessy-Fiske. Accepting the papers in the Special Collections Reading Room are Judith Macy, Reading Room Supervisor, and Sid Huttner, Head of Special Collections.
