Alan January has contributed books, documents, manuscripts, and printed ephemera in a series of gifts over several years, and we are grateful for his continued thoughtfulness. Most recently he has given a group of ballots documenting elections in Malcolm (Poweshiek County), IA 1896-1908. Printed on inexpensive papers, these ballots are being deacidified and encapsulated by the Conservation Department and will be scanned later.

January's gift included railroad ephemera as well, whence the hand towel from the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad dated 1947 and imaged below. It adds to the extensive documentation of American railroads already present in the Iowa collections. The gravy stains in the upper right did not disappear when the towel was washed and appear permanent.
