Jack Leggett Papers
2003 Addendum
Jack Leggett has had a distinguished career as writer, editor and director of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, 1969-1987. His most recent book is a A Daring Young Man: A Biography of William Saroyan (New York: Knopf, 2002), and he has recently presented his extensive reseach files for this book to the Libraries as an addendum to papers given earlier.
The papers include two original, unpublished Saroyan manuscripts, The Secret of Lily Dafon or The Paris Comedy (1959) and Settled Out of Court, a play by Henry Cecil that Saroyan rewrote and retitled Fair Trial at Gunpoint (1959). Both typescript drafts are heavily edited. Leggett describes them, and the story of their creation, on pages 315-321 of A Daring Young Man
A finding aid to the Leggett papers is online at http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/spec-coll/MSC/ToMsc550/MsC503/MsC503_leggett.html.
